About Friederike Steinbeck

project associate | from: Berlin/Germany Friederike is a filmmaker, producer, lecturer and trainer. She has produced several short and feature films that were shown at various festivals – “Heimkommen” was awarded the German Short Film Award in Gold and “Petting Zoo” was shown as part of the Berlinale 2015 Panorama Section. Her activities in film reach back to her early days as a freelance location manager and casting assistant for feature and television films, to completing a vocational training as media business manager before studying at the German Film and Television Academy. From here, she worked as a Junior Producer at World Sales and Production Company Match Factory and Pola Pandora where she was involved in internationally acclaimed projects. Friederike is also a trained mediator and works as process facilitator with individuals and groups, a profession she brings into the film world by giving lectures for film production and conflict management at the German Film and Television Academy as well as filmArche. Combining these two fields, her aim both as filmmaker and facilitator is to create spaces and structures that enable and encourage individual contributions to a collective process and to help unfold and unlock each person’s potential. Besides her engagement as project associate for “Fresh Craft Series” she is at the moment working on her own film that she shoots on 16mm. The film’s documentary style is characterised by a deliberately subjective visual language and in composition adopts an associative and essayistic form.
